Egan Range Ag started in the minds of owners Andy Hobbs and Shane Souza some 20 years back. Finally, in 2020, the company was born.

Andy Hobbs

Andy Hobbs has been in the hay business since 1979 when he worked with his cousin in imperial California as a retail salesperson and also made deliveries to local buyers. In 1985, he started his career as a produce broker/inspector in Visalia, CA, where he met his business partner, Shane Souza. Andy’s successful produce career lasted some 24+ years, but Andy always missed the “Hay” business. In 2017, Andy decided to take a job with an East Coast hay trader, where he developed relationships with excellent growers from California to Florida and Washington to New York and sold their hay.

In 2022, Andy decided to start his dream company, Egan Range Ag. He chose the name because he found some of the best Alfalfa in the world grown at the foot of the Egan Range Mountains in Utah, where he plans to locate in the future. Currently, Andy is traveling the country doing what he loves: finding great hay and sharing it with the world.

Shane Souza

Shane Souza started cutting Alfalfa when he was 7 years old on the family farm located in Selma, California, where he currently hangs his hat farming the same fields as his parents and grandparents have done since the turn of the century.

After college, Shane ventured into the produce business, where he honed his skills at negotiating contracts between growers, truckers, and buyers for the past 30+ years and continues to this day.

Andy came to Shane in the spring of 2022 and asked if he would be interested in joining forces in the Hay business. Shane, intrigued by Andy’s proposition, decided to look into the Hay business, and that was the start of their exciting venture into the “Hay” business.
